Qualities of an accredited program:

1. The children are relaxed, comfortable and happy, and involved in play and other activities.

2. A sufficient number of teachers, trained in early childhood education, are on staff.

3. Group size is especially important for young children. NAEYC recommends that groups not exceed: 6-8 children for infants; 10-14 children for 2-3 year olds; 16-20 children for 4-5 year olds.

4. Activities are varied and are age appropriate for all the children in the class. There is sufficient equipment, readily available, for children to use.

5. All areas of a child’s development are considered. Fostering the development of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional abilities in each child is carefully thought about.

6. Staff meets regularly to plan activities and evaluate the program.

7. Close communication with the children’s parents is important. Parents are encouraged to make suggestions and participate in the program.

8. Staff are alert to children’s health and safety issues throughout the entire program.

9. The facility is kept clean and organized. The classroom environment is inviting to all.
